Text neck is a very real thing, and it’s only going to get worse with more and more technological advances and new devices hitting the market every week.
Text neck is the term used to describe the neck pain, structural changes, and damage that happens when you look down at your cell phone, tablet, or other device too often and for too long.
But why do people make such a big deal out of it?
At first text neck may not seem like a huge problem, but over time this can result in very serious spine deformity, such as a straight neck (military neck), or even a reversed curve (it’s never good when something starts to go backwards). These changes can become permanent, and even lead to serious degenerative changes such as arthritis.
So how can we fix it? Well…
- Number One! Hold up your phone or device at eye level! This one is a no brainer, really. At first this may be a difficult change to make, because your body has been undergoing structural changes. But the more you do it, the easier it gets, and you can help stop and even reverse the changes happening in your neck!
- Number Two! Take frequent breaks from your phone or other device! This one is another no brainer. Instead of checking your phone or other device every few minutes throughout the day, make yourself a schedule to check your devices no more than 3-6 times per day so you can spare your neck!
- Number Three! Stretch! While you’re taking you breaks from your devices, stretch so that you can help repair the damage done by poor posture! Specifically, we at Progressive Chiropractic are fans of these stretches:
And most importantly…
The benefits of Chiropractic adjustments are astounding. By getting adjusted you get your spine aligned and allow your body to function at its best. With consistent Chiropractic adjustments, you can decrease your stress, decrease inflammation, help regain proper posture, and help reverse those structural changes that text neck can cause!
The specific Chiropractic adjustment empowers your body to heal itself, so what are you waiting for?
