The Truth About Water

Everyone knows that water is important—heck, we’re made of mostly water! And most people know that they should be drinking at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water (which equals about 2 liters, or half a gallon).

But what they don’t tell you is that what kind of water you drink makes a difference!

What kinds of water are there?

There are many many kinds of water! But, to name a few of the most popular kinds:

  • Sparkling Water
  • Distilled Water
  • Purified Water
  • Spring Water
  • Mineral Water
  • Tap Water

Is there a kind of water you should avoid? Actually, yes! The two that should be most avoided are plain Tap Water and Distilled Water.

Tap water is fluoridated. While water is fluoridated specifically to prevent cavities and promote better dental hygiene, there are potentially very serious side effects from the fluoride in our water. Some of the potential side effects include severe dental fluorosis, skeletal fluorosis, and even weakened bones. Long-term exposure to fluoride in large amounts interferes with bone formation! So use your tap water for cleaning, not for drinking.

Distilled water is basically water that has been boiled. This means that most, if not all, of the nutrients in the water have been destroyed. It’s got nothing in it! And it can even cause mineral deficiencies in your body, too. Drinking this kind of water may cause a rapid sodium, potassium, and magnesium loss. These minerals are vital to human life, so distilled water is best avoided for drinking purposes. Use it in your car, not your body.

What kind of water is the best for drinking?

The common consensus is that Spring Water is the best water for people to drink.

Perhaps the best thing about spring water is that it has been filtered by the earth itself! And, it is filtered in ways we still do not completely understand—and it still works better than any invented man-made means of purifying water. Another fantastic advantage to spring water is that it contains a wide variety of trace minerals that the human body needs to not only survive, but also thrive! Ideally, everyone should only be drinking spring water. And even more ideally, people should only be drinking spring water from remote areas on earth, to help ensure that there are less pollutants and contaminants present.

And, one could always consider a good water filter to attach to your sink so that you have better tap water to drink too!
